Bob Marley_ One Love (2024) Review

Bob Marley is one of the most recognizable names in the world, whose music, cultural influence and message of unity transcends borders. And while Reinaldo Marcus Green's "Bob Marley: One Love" tries to portray his influence and legacy on screen, the movie's low-risk conventional approach makes it a rather hollow experience.

The movie is as vanilla as it gets, with nothing really standing out. And that extends to lead actor Kingsley Ben-Adir, who while I think is a great actor, just isn't able to make the character work. He seems to be trying his best to replicate the legend, but is quite not all there with his portrayal that we're always aware we're watching an actor play Bob Marley and not Bob Marley himself.

While "Bob Marley: One Love" is not as boring as some of the other musical biopics I've seen (like 'I Wanna Dance with Somebody' or 'The United States vs Billie Holiday'), it surely doesn't do enough to be worth recommending. It's yet another biopic that plays like a collection of vignettes than an actual narrative story, with some 'greatest hits' backing tracks. It certainly doesn't do Marley's legacy any justice. We do have a lengthy cast list here but One Love is anchored/carried by 2 performances. Kingsley Ben-Adir has the screen presence to carry this project, he nails the accent and even has a lot of physicality to his work in One Love. The emotion he brings to the table helps you understand why Bob Marley was idolized and beloved by so many. I wish the movie had explored more periods of Bob Marley's life just so we could have seen what Kingsley would have brought to them. I expected Ben-Adir to be good but the more surprising but equally impressive acting came from Lashana Lynch as Bob Marley's wife Rita. I've only seen Lashana previously in tentpole-esque studio fare (No Time to Die and Captain Marvel) but she transforms in One Love and I hope both her and Kingsley get some awards consideration. To the movie's credit, both Bob and Rita are presented as complex and multi-layered characters and represent the clay that Kingsley and Lashana moulded beautifully with their work in One Love.

It's a more minor note but one of the surprise boxes One Love ticks is that I think it's filmed/shot well. The camera work highlights some of Jamaica's natural beauty but also shows some of the less camera friendly aspects of it as well. The CGI isn't top-notch but it wasn't bad enough to draw attention to. I have a friend who I saw the movie with who visited Jamaica and she was calling out parts of the country she toured in her vacation. I can't call One Love a visual tour de force but there were shots littered throughout the movie that caught my attention and I think it's worth crediting the team for their work in this film.

So far, you may be confused on why my rating for Bob Marley: One Love is so low and it does have a lot of notable pluses. But the unfortunate truth of the matter is that despite the acting and cinematography being striking and stimulating, the odd structure the movie insists on using to reveal its narrative really hampers the proceedings. My best friend compared the movie's structure as counting to 10 as if it were 1,4,7,2,5. The film is disorganized and almost confusing unless you're intimately familiar with Marley's life (I'm passively familiar at best, I did like some of his music and I knew he passed away relatively young). Subplots are created and dropped (e.g. Marley's greedy business manager, the drama surrounding Marley's father, the political unrest in Jamaica in the mid 1970s) frequently and it helps stop the movie from gelling together appropriately. It also dampens the impact of Marley's passing because the fact he's terminally ill is introduced so late that you can't get emotionally invested. There's a pretty concrete formula about how to operate in this genre and while I admire the screenwriter's attempt to try something different, it does the movie a disservice instead.

Everything to create a compelling and informative film about Bob Marley's life was here. We have some terrific performances, some interesting cinematography and Marley and his story are inspiring and his message still prescient even today. But the result of One Love is a puzzling and mildly disappointing misfire, I understand that the studio and the creative team wanting to circumvent the formula but you still have to justify it by showing us a new angle or creating something memorable. Bob Marley: One Love as a product is fine but I think its subject deserved a better movie. I'd really rate One Love somewhere between a 6-7 but I rounding down because of what they squandered in this production. One Love is still worth a watch but as we frequently get some really fantastic movies in this genre, I'd recommend it only to Marley fans as there's better films about other musicians available for your viewing pleasure.

We went to see this movie on a whim and although I am not someone who listens to reggae music, I would like to learn more about it and see what Bob Marley was in our world. The story was not the easiest to follow because it it jumped around in time, which isn't usually difficult to follow, but it was in this movie. There were aspects missing that would have brought this movie together much better.

I found I enjoyed the music very much and I did get a sense of why Bob Marley was an important figurehead in the attempt of taking away hate at teaching love to all.

I thought the actress who played Bob's wife was fantastic. I felt a lot of pain and strife that she must have experienced as the celebrity status of her husband soared. To me, she was the best part of the movie.

This was an interesting movie with fine performances, but it felt a bit rushed and scattered in it's writing.

I attended a screening of Bob Marley: One Love (2024) last night. The narrative traces Bob Marley's journey to fame, navigating the violence in his home and channeling it as a creative force for success. We glimpse flashbacks of his family life, marked by maternal abandonment and the pivotal role of his wife in propelling him from adversity to stardom.

Directed by Reinaldo Marcus Green (King Richard), the film features Kingsley Ben-Adir (Peaky Blinders), Lashana Lynch (No Time to Die), Aston Barrett Jr., James Norton (Little Women), and Tosin Cole (House Party).

The movie presents an uneven experience, with aspects that captivated me and others that fell short. The exploration of Marley's upbringing and its surrounding circumstances was excellent and enlightening, and the love story was compelling. The portrayal of Marley's global and domestic influence was also commendable. However, Kingsley Ben-Adir's attempt to embody Marley's unique, awkward, and unpredictable persona felt somewhat inauthentic. His meticulously perfect wig and attire contrasted with Marley's natural, islander vibe as seen in videos during the closing credits.

In conclusion, Bob Marley: One Love offers worthwhile elements, but it falls short of elite status, akin to films like Ray or Walk the Line. I'd give it a 6/10 and suggest watching it at least once.

When watching the trailers I was scared they were gonna focus more on the music than on the man, and that's exactly what happens.

I feel like they remained só surface level on Bob Marley, the man, and focused more on what his music brought. And I think that's what happens when family is heavily involved in the movie, because they will want to play safe, and that's what this movie does, with the character of Bob Marley.

The screenplay also didn't feel like a final draft, some of the dialogue felt repetitive, and some of it, quite cringy. And for negatives that's what I have.

Kingsley Ben-Adir and Lashana Lynch absolutely kill it, they are fantastic and an early Oscar contender performances. Another thing I was scared was the accents, because at times they can go to over the top and make it feel like a parody, but they weren't they nailed it.

The music was also emaculate, if you're a fan of his music, you'll love what they did, and how they paid their respects.

I feel like for the right audience this definitely will be amazing. It's a cool movie, fun time. I just wish we could learn more about Bob Marley, not just his music.

      • Flight Crew english movie Review

Alexey Gushchin is a talented young military pilot who does not accept authority and acts under a personal honor code. He is given a mission to deliver a cargo of supplies for charity, but the plane is also filled with cars for a general whose friend's daughter is getting married. During the mission, realising that the plane cannot go through the storm easily, he disposes of one of the cars in mid-air. For his actions, he is prevented from flying a military aircraft again and in spite of that, he asks his father Igor (a famous aircraft engineer) for help getting back on the scene. He applies to a passenger airline, with Leonid Zinchenko overseeing his examination in a simulation. During the test, Alexey demonstrates impressive flying skills, but fails the test when he is unable to prevent the plane from crashing into a building on landing. Leonid, under pressure from his peers, retries the test and also crashes, forcing him to hire Alexey as the second pilot-trainee on the Tu-204SM along with attendant Andrey under the guidance of Zinchenko. Meanwhile, Zinchenko is experiencing family problems due to his absence from home and his alienation from his son Valera, who has abandoned education. Meanwhile, Alexey begins a relationship with pilot Alexandra Kuzmina.

On one of their flights, Gushchin and Zinchenko evacuate tourists from an African country in a revolution, but Gushchin becomes appalled when he learns that Zinchenko refused to allow the locals to board the plane. Zinchenko tells him that he must just stick to his orders.

While preparing for a flight, Gushchin confronts a wealthy man who refuses to obey safety regulations. Eventually, this leads to a fight on a plane, and Gushchin is fired. At the same time, he and Alexandra strain their relationship. The next day, on the train, Gushchin is confronted by Zinchenko who, impressed with Alexey's abilities, wants him back. Zinchenko also plans to take Valera on the next flight as well to convince him to continue his education.

The crew boards the plane for their next flight to Southeast Asia. During the flight, the crew receives a message about a volcanic eruption on one of the Aleutian Islands called Kanwoo and decides to go to the epicenter of the disaster to evacuate people before the expected volcano eruption. The crew arrives at the Kanwoo airport, where they discover that many people were killed or injured. They must now evacuate the remaining people who are coming on minibuses. Gushchin goes to the airport, when suddenly a powerful earthquake destroys the airport's infrastructure and destroys one of the runways, while the other one is covered with burning oil.

The crew then receives word that one of the minibuses has become trapped in a rockfall. Gushchin, Andrey and Valera go on two minibuses to retrieve the passengers. After the minibuses leave, Zinchenko, Alexandra and the rest of the passengers observe the eruption of the volcano. Realising that the runway will be soon overflown with lava, Zinchenko and Alexandra abandon the Tu-204 in favour of an An-26, intending to leave the Tu-204 for Alexey. Meanwhile, Gushchin, Andrey and Valera find the stranded passengers, but on their way back to the airport, the road is blocked by a lava flow. Andrey, who has driven his minivan into the lava, tells the passengers to get out of the back and climb into Gushchin's van. He manages to then save himself just in time before the van is swept off the cliff by the flow.

The trio and the passengers make it back to the airport on foot, only to find the Tu-204 standing empty and Zinchenko and the rest of the passengers gone. The group climbs into the plane. Seeing that it is impossible to take off from the main runway due to its damage, Gushchin decides to use the shorter runway, which is covered in burning oil. After a water tower breaks and puts out the fire, Gushchin is able to take off successfully. Despite several engine fires from the ash cloud, the crew manages to escape the zone. The crew then comes into contact with Zinchenko's plane. Valera, knowing of his father's actions and seeing them as unjust, tells him over the radio, "I will never forgive you".

The only appropriate airport for them to land is the Elisovo Airport,

but a storm is now approaching the airport. Zinchenko reports to Alexei the fuel tank was damaged during take off, resulting in them rapidly losing fuel. This means that they would not be able to reach the coast. Igor, who has discovered his son's whereabouts, and is now at the air company's HQ, tells him over the radio his proposed plan: using the cage on the An-26, they can transfer the passengers from that plane to the Tu-204, which has much more fuel. Gushchin accepts the idea, and is backed by Valera, Andrey and the passengers. The planes meet at an acceptable height, and the passengers of the An-26 transfer a cable to the Tu-204, allowing them to begin evacuating the passengers on the An-26 via the cage. The first two operations are successful, with Alexandra being amongst the ones saved, but on the third go, the cage's ropes snap, sending 11 people falling to their deaths, forcing Zinchenko to evacuate the An-26 on the cable before the plane plunges into the ocean. The crew then receives the news that conditions at Elisovo have worsened, but the crew still decides to land there due to their plane having one engine and a faulty chassis, disobeying their orders. Gushchin admits to fearing landing the malfunctioning plane in bad weather and risking the lives of passengers, but Zinchenko reminds him of his skills. At landing, the landing chassis breaks and one of the engines flies off with its wing, but nevertheless, the entire crew and passengers survive. Zinchenko congratulates Gushchin with the landing, and leaves the plane, helped by Valera, who has forgiven his father. As emergency services begin to arrive, the survivors rejoice and mourn the loss of their loved ones. Victorious, Gushchin leaves the scene into the night while Alexandra looks on.

Sometime later, Gushchin and Alexandra have married and Zinchenko has fully reconciled with Valera. Despite this, they are fired from their jobs as pilots by the flight company's director for disobeying the order to not land at Elisovo. However, after the two leave, the director calls Aeroflot, asking them if they "Are still looking for pilots". Gushcin and Zinchenko are transferred to Aeroflot as flight interns, while Alexandra becomes a pilot in the same company

SNAKE HOTEL Full Movie Review

Right, well with a title such as "Snake Hotel", and given the movie's cover, I must admit that I was expecting this movie from director Charles Solly to be in the likes of the many, many monstrous creature features that have been spewing out of the Chinese cinema these last couple of years.

However, it was not. Nay, instead I was treated to a very slow paced movie about prisoners being used as pawns in a game where they serve as fodder for a giant, mutated snake. Sure, the premise sounds interesting enough, except that writers Harry Boxley, Charles Solly and James Solly completely botched the formula and "Snake Hotel" ended up being a slow paced, boring and generic viewing experience.

There were a couple of familiar faces on the cast list, though I wouldn't be able to name the two ladies even if my life counted on it. But I have seen enough low budget and dubious movies and that is where I have seen them before. Yeah, you're not in for an evening of Shakespearian theater when you sit down to watch a movie like "Snake Hotel", but then again, would you expect to be? The acting performances in the movie were adequate enough, taking into consideration the limitations imposed on the actresses and actors from a subpar script.

Visually then "Snake Hotel" crashed and burnt. The CGI rendered snakes looked like some discarded CGI rendering from a 1990s computer game. It is simply beyond my comprehension how such poor and laughable CGI can get green-lighted in 2023.

This movie came and went without leaving a lasting impression. And if you enjoy creature features, don't bother wasting your time, money or effort on this movie from director Charles Solly.

In fact, the best thing about "Snake Hotel" was actually the cover/poster, which over-sold the movie by a million times. The snakes in the movie look nothing like that, and there is not that kind of action to be found throughout the course of the 84 minutes that the movie ran for.

My rating of "Snake Hotel" lands on a two out of ten stars.
Stuck in an all-female prison, inmates are gathered together and offered a chance at a shorter sentence if they're willing to participate in a strange game conducted by a mysterious benefactor, but when they realize it's being held at a mansion overrun by massive snakes must try to get away alive.

style="background-color: #fbfbfb; color: #333333; font-size: 13px;">Overall, this is a rather enjoyable enough genre effort. One of the finer aspects to be had here is the film's fun setup that provides a more than worthy setup for this type of cheesy creature feature. The initial starting point with the group of inmates shown to be quite at odds with each other while they're set in the facility and then offered the controversial chance at freedom with the mysterious game they can partake in to get that chance at freedom buys this a generally fun start here. With the devious nature of the mysterious owner is also given credence with the way they go about the gathering of the girls as their ability to undermine the sleazy warden and alien-like behavior does this all quite nicely as well for a solid enough opening setup. That gives way to the usual standard cheesy creature attacks once the girls are thrust into the game and everything starts to get spelled out. As we've already got an idea of what's going on with the opening attack on the victims in the mainstay hotel, there's a sense of the type of content on display here which is what happens in the rest of the attacks. Relying on the idea of continuous shock ambushes where the creatures can pop out of the darkness and chase the screaming victims through the various rooms and hallways of the massive house, the use of cheesy setpieces where the snakes are put through their paces where the usual effects-work is present in fine form. As this all has a fun atmosphere present, it provides a lot to like even if this one does have some drawbacks that bring it down. The main issue here is the rather strange lack of interest derived from the girls who are playing the game as it's hard to care about any of them. Despite the setup of them getting wrapped up in this strange game being played, the fact that we get to know next to nothing about them due to the setup here rushing them out to the hotel and getting them to be chased by the snakes means that all we get in terms of a name to a face is one quick sequence showing them being selected for the program. If that's glossed over, attaching a name to a face is not going to happen, and the interpersonal relationships of everyone since that does get brought up here as well make for a disconnected experience during the film. As well, there's also the strange way that this one manages to bring about some unnecessary storylines during the game that aren't necessary. A major plot point involving one of the guards trying to help one of the women get through the night is just brought up out of nowhere and flies in the complete face of what the training has shown them to be, especially since it happens immediately with very little brush-back. Likewise, a bit involving some drama between several of the girls from their prison terms involving personal drama that spills over into fighting each other throughout the house as it's unappealing and unrealistic that they'd continue acting this way in the situation. These factors are what end up holding this back the most.

Dark Asset Movie Reviews

A fairly good story hampered by a lack of Budget.

More cash would have gotten this movie a better tech advisor, stunt and or fight coordinator, armorer, military advisor, special effects and another editing pass or three. Did they rent a steady-cam and run out of funds? Various shots look like they did. If not I think it was a poor decision.

I DID like how they played the story out through various flashbacks over drinks. Nice choice there.

The acting by most of the main cast is solid but the secondary cast not so much.

As is it's worth watching once for what could have been a pretty great movie.

Perhaps the story line and dialogue could have been a bit more refined and elegant; but otherwise this is a pretty good film - being a superb satire of today's world.

PS: In view that several US lawmakers called on the Biden administration to take action against Iran after a drone attack blamed on Iran-backed militants on a base in Jordan that killed three US troops and wounded dozens, an intervention from our diplomatic assets in the International Community will be neccessary.

It should be noted though, that Iran denied US and British accusations that it supported militant groups behind the drone strike in Jordan that killed three US military personnel, Tehran's official IRNA news agency reported.

So it's kind of a difficult situation - and as Acting President of the US I'm ordering our 'Dark Assets' to stand down, for the time being.

However, independently of these events, it should be noted that the current Iranian dictatorship is doomed to fall; under Ali Khamenei and the IRGC - due to blatant violations of the UDHR and UNCRC.
d2
The same of course applies to Israel, under the oppressive and corrupt Netanyahu regime - if they do not end apartheid and the occupation of Palestine - by implementing Equality, International Law and Universal Suffrage.

PS: Just like 2,500 years ago - during the Iron Age - tyrants, fanatics and evildoers still clobber each other over the head, aiming to exert dominance and slavery over each other; in particular guys like Ali Khamenei and Bibi Netanyahu, which is very disappointing. Hence we must finally all work together to manifest World Peace and the UDHR.

But no worries, if all else fails, I'll take over all of these countries - as the current President of the Middle East, UK and United States.

NB: The Putin regime is responsible for the killings of Human Rights Defenders and critics of the corrupt and evil egime; such as Alexei Navalny. We declare all perpetrators of the Putin regime 'Persona non grata' - and order their arrest by the Global Community.

Love and Light / Peace Profound.

This is a bit of a shame. It could have been really good. It's got all the ingredients for an interesting movie. Modified humans used as weapons...count me in.

It's got a interesting cast of recognisable actors such as Terminator guy and The A- hole from the big short. The structure of the movie is well done flicking backwards and forwards in time to make an decent structure The problems are that the budget doesn't allow for any interesting sets and thus the film looks quite samey. The editing is also awful and kills any notion of coherence or pace in the action sequences which is a death sentence for an action movie.
d1

I'll go ahead and blame the budget on this one.. and also some uneven direction. Ultimately, this movie has the ingredients to be something fun and interesting, but it would rely on better choreography and filming style, a more engaging script, a serious round of editing, and set pieces that are a grade above the cafeteria across from the movie set. The acting is pretty decent (at least for the mains) when they are bantering through kill machine discovery.

Unfortunately, it feels like a 3-hour movie, but it is watchable for some mild entertainment in parts if nothing better presents itself. Lower your expectations though.

Chain OF  Command story:

Chain of Command' is a direct-to-video actioner, the last film and dying breath of The Cannon Group.

Well, for those who watch these kind of films regularly I hardly need to describe it. It's merely a variation on the same movie you've seen many times before, par for the course. The script doesn't make much sense a lot of the time and the acting is flimsy with very little if any character development, but that's okay because those things only exist to provide a framework for lots and lots of low budget shooting, stabbing, and exploding.

Watching the action sequences, I started feeling kind of nostalgic because they are sooo 70's and 80's in style – lots of slo-mo. Slo-mo of guys flying through the air when a grenade goes off, slo-mo of guys falling from ledges after getting shot, slo-mo of bombs exploding…so dramatic! Anyone who grew up watching television in that era knows the style I'm talking about; I guess at the time we all thought it was very theatrical. I suppose that technique hasn't been totally abandoned today, but still...the way it's done in films of that time has a look all its own.

Another element of the style that I got a kick out of was the way the main character can stand right out in the open in a gunfight without a care in the world. Despite there being a group of at least 10 guys blasting away at him he never gets a scratch, and, of course, manages to easily shoot every one them. Silly...oh well, you can't complain too much because even great movies like Star Wars pulled that kind of stuff.

Funny, too, are such wonderful scenes as when the villain has our weaponless hero on the run and forces him to take cover behind a hotel bar. Does the villain, emboldened by the fact that he has two submachine guns and our hero has nothing, walk behind the bar and shoot our hero at point blank range? No! He proceeds to use up every last bullet firing at the bar, the drinks, the stools, the mirror behind the bar, and the ceiling, finally stopping when he runs out of ammo so that our hero can make a run for it.

What we have here is a case of little boys who like to play with little firecrackers growing up into big boys who like to make movies where they play with big firecrackers. Films like this are really for one purpose...destruction porn. The thrill of watching all kinds of stuff get smashed or blown up. Now don't get me wrong, I'm no different than the next guy. I love a good action movie. But I also like an interesting script and engaging characters.

I said before that the acting's pretty flimsy but I guess I can't totally rip all of the performers in this movie. Michael Dudikoff, a legend of this genre, is really not all that bad at times. R. Lee Ermey is in this! Now there's an instantly recognizable character actor. Ermey's main henchman, Todd Curtis, has some surprisingly good acting chops; I actually found him to be the most natural and believable. Looking on IMDb I see that his resume ends not long after this movie, though. I wonder what happened.

Anyway, to sum up...movies like this are made for people who LIKE movies like this, and who am I to judge? It's not my cup of tea, but if you love tongue-in-cheek action flicks then you'll probably get a kick out of this. It has all the right ingredients: the unstoppable hero, the hot girl, the cheesy dialogue, and a healthy dose of mayhem and destruction.

The very beginning of this film is so slow I nearly shut the movie off. But then there was some sort of throwback to an earlier time and it was so over the top violent I kept watching.

It's a weird movie. Supposedly it was mostly shot in English, but it almost appears that some of the English scenes were cut into another film for continuity.

You have to give it to the Japanese that they seem to come up with some creative plot ideas. But don't be mistaken, this is a very low budget movie. Really a throwback to the grind-house flicks of the 70's and 80's.

It's not a great flick, but it's watchable and weird.

The Japanese are renowned for their whacky sense of humour, but they also have a darker side, or in this case a sicker side. Sadism, rape, murder, necrophilia, cannibalism? These are schoolboy jokes, not adult entertainment. Alas, all and more are included herein. The wife of a doctor is murdered before his eyes by one of the most degenerate human beings on the face of the planet; the doctor himself is crippled by the same lowlife but left alive so he can tell the world what a wonderful person his benefactor is. Not. He decides not unreasonably to exact revenge on this individual, and comes up with an extremely novel plan (one that is physically impossible in several ways). This is where Gun Woman comes in.
The assassin in the very first shot of the film is played stiff as a board, wearing a trench coat, sunglasses, a moustache... ducking and diving at nothing.. walking then stopping for no reason. He gets in a car and talks to his accomplice - who is as nervous and vacant as him. Then the rest of the film is basically riding along with these two people you don't care about as they tell a story...

The best actor/actress of the film is the main character "gun woman", and a villain or two. The rest of the actors appear to be friends and family thrown in to fill gaps at the promise of seeing a naked lady or guy.

GUN WOMAN is awesome in every way. Despite the low budget, the realization is remarkable, as are the special effects. There are many scenes (often action or very gory) that are absolutely epic. The actors are very good, both in the action and dialogue scenes. ASAMI is great in his role. You can see the movie just for that reason! Finally, the script has some unexpected twists and turns that make you want to see it all again. There is also a real work on the details, especially those related to suffering. The atmosphere and events in the film are meant to be realistic and disturbing. It works!

It's a pity that this movie is not more known, it's original and extremely entertaining. Splatter fan, go and see it!A brilliant doctor (Kairi Narita) on a quest for revenge buys a young woman (asami) and trains her to be the ultimate assassin, implanting gun parts in her body that she must later assemble and use to kill her target before she bleeds to death.

Asami has really become an international star. She broke out in "Machine Girl" and has since appeared in "Zombie Ass" and "Gothic & Lolita Psycho". This may be her first title role, or at least her biggest title role.

As others have pointed out, the wraparound story is the weakest part and seems to be a plot device to have the film be in English (a wise decision). Does it help move the story? Maybe a little, but it could have been completely removed without much hassle.

Dread Central says, "A big part of this is the amazing score by Dean Harada. All synths and metal guitars." He may be best known for "Samurai Avenger: The Blind Wolf", which also happens to be directed by this film's Kurando Mitsutake. They are spot on. Love it or hate it, Harada just dominates this film.

James Marsh says the movie "rises above its budgetary limitations in suitably sleazy style". This sums up the picture. While it does have those budget issues, and tends to be overly reliant on nude women to tantalize the audience, it will appeal to the fans of "Machine Girl" and "Tokyo Gore Police", and before long the quality is no longer an issue.

Furioza, a Polish Netflix action-thriller, is not just a higher form of the comparatively childish Fast and Furious; it feels like the real thing, as if the spirit of every serious gangster film were put on steroids and made into a brutal cop story pitting a gang of skinhead, immoral thugs banned together and fighting like a nightmare of Fight Club.

Three friends from the same gang: Dawid (Mateusz Banasiuk), Kaszub (Wojciech Zielinski) and Dzika (Weronika Ksiazkiewicz), his former girlfriend. Each takes a different life that converges again--this time Dawid is a doctor, Kaszb, his brother, stays in a gang, and Dzika (reminding me physically of Guy Pearce) joins the police. Dzika asks Dawid to infiltrate Furiosa for information and thus save his brother from being prison.

Bad boy gang leader Antman (Marcin Mrowezynski) is the object of their arrangement because his gang is not only responsible for drug trafficking, but it also mercilessly beats on gangs and civilians alike. For auds who like seeing realistic fisticuffs, Furioza is ground zero. For those who like to see brotherhood and romance play out thematically while accompanied by rough-housing, this adventure is nectar.

It's enjoyable and culturally instructive to see a gangster flick from a European country like Poland with enough eurotrash to make us feel good about our own tough-guy trash. Furiozo is fast and furious with enough evil and love to make it a cut above our common mobster actioner.

The film has a very simple storyline and is not hard to follow like previous reviews suggest.

Alot of the story is based around the brotherhood of the gang and their struggles to make money and survive in a violent culture. I watched the film in 2 halves due to its length, however the pace is quick and not boring. The gang has lots of different characters which makes it interesting and enjoyable to watch. This is alot better than most of the Hollywood films being shown this year. Well worth watching.

Couple of comments: let me state upfront that I had never heard of this film, and only found out about it when Netflix "suggested" it to me (based on my viewing habits). When I realized that this was a foreign film, I did not hesitate. As it turned out, this film was quite the mixed bag for me. The plot is frankly confusing and I found it challenging to keep track as to who is who, with a no-names large cast to boot. Then there is the strange mix of "Fight Club" reminding themes vs. A typical drug crime type film. In the end, it's more a film about Polish macho types eager and needing to release a lot of pent-up anger and feelings. But with a running time of 2 hrs and 20 minutes, the movie is too long for its own good. Last but not least, please note that the movie's title "Furioza" refers to the name of the fight club which the cops are tracking, and should not be confused with/is not related to the Charlize Theron character Furiosa in the "Mad Max: Fury Road" movie.

"Furioza" recently started streaming on Netflix. If you liked the classic 1999 film "Fight Club" (yes, almost a quarter century ago!), I'd readily suggest you check this out, keeping expectations modest, and draw your own conclusion.
